If your roommate has tested positive for COVID, you have likely been exposed and need to take the following actions immediately:

  • Begin wearing a well-fitted mask in the presence of others to reduce further exposure or infection of yourself and others.
  • If you have ANY symptoms of COVID, contact Student Health by email (dshcheckin@duke.edu) or by phone during business hours at 919-681-9355 and choose option 2 to speak to a triage nurse to be tested and receive further guidance.
  • If you have no symptoms, get a PCR test by requesting an “exit test” at one of the surveillance testing sites on campus or visiting an outside testing facility.

If you test positive for COVID, you will need to isolate for a minimum of five days before returning to class or other gatherings (Note: health sciences students will be required to observe the longer isolation requirement for those working in the healthcare environment). Continue wearing a well-fitted mask for five days after your isolation period.

Residential Students: If you test negative and are medically high-risk for severe illness, you may request temporary alternative housing during your roommate’s isolation period.
